Transfer to Central England FAQs

The Midcounties Co-operative agrees in principle to transfer its Funeralcare business to Central England Co-operative.

Central England Co-operative (CEC) and The Midcounties Co-operative (Midcounties) have agreed the terms of a transaction that will consolidate the majority of Midcounties’ Funeralcare business into the larger CEC Funeralcare operation.

1. General

Q. When will I hear from Central England Co-operative?

The team at Central England will be in touch once everything has completed about next steps. Please be assured that Central England Co-operative shares the same ethics and values that undoubtedly attracted you to Midcounties to purchase your funeral plan. Q. What are my rights regarding any changes Central England Co-operative may bring in?

Your statutory rights are unaffected by the transaction.

Q. Can I complain or raise an enquiry with any official body or organisation?

Both Midcounties Co-operative and Central England Co-operative are members of the National Association of Funeral Directors and Funeral Planning Authority, both of whom have robust complaints procedures for clients to access.

2. At need

Q. Midcounties are arranging my loved one’s funeral, will this be affected?

No –Your current needs and arrangements with the funeral for your loved one will not be affected. Our professional and experienced funeral teams will continue to be here for you every step of the way.

3. Pre-need Plans

Q. What will happen to my existing Midcounties Co-operative Funeral Plan now Central England Co-operative are taking on the business?

If you are an existing Midcounties Funeral Plan holder, there is nothing you need to do. Your plan will remain in place and once everything is completed, your plan will be transferred to Central England.

Please be reassured your plan is safe and once this has been transferred to Central England, they will write to you confirming your information. Please keep this document with your plan information.

Q. I want my local Midcounties Co-operative funeral home to carry out the plan, will this still happen?

Once everything is complete the Central England team will be in touch to discuss next steps and will be able to answer any questions you may have. In the meantime, there is nothing you need to do.

entral England are purchasing all Midcounties Co-operative funeral plans but not all funeral homes, therefore some funeral plans will need to be reassigned to Central England homes. Options will be detailed when writing to individual plan holders. Q. Can I cancel my plan and get a full refund if I don’t want it to be transferred to Central England Co-operative?

Your statutory rights are not affected by this transaction and clients have the option to cancel their plan under the terms of their pre-paid plan agreement. At that point, all money paid to Midcounties would be returned to you, less any cancellation charge that is applicable to your selected funeral plan. 4. Clients for whom we are currently storing ashes.

Q. Midcounties Co-operative currently looks after the cremated remains of my loved one, will this be affected?

The arrangements in place with your loved one’s cremated remains will not change as per discussions with your funeral arranger. Our branch will continue to care for them in the same way that we have always done, and our professional and experienced funeral teams will continue to be here for you.
